Watford win sees Liverpool unbeaten run come to an end

The Premier League leaders had their wings clipped at Vicarage Road as a brace from Ismaïla Sarr and a late Troy Deeney strike saw the Hornets secure maximum points.

With recent wins over Southampton and Norwich stretching their unbeaten run to 44 games and leapfrogging the great Nottingham Forest side of the 1970s and past the great 2017-18 FC Barcelona (both on 43), defeat at the hands of Watford sees the run come to an end. The ‘Reds’ were on a highly impressive 422 day and 44 game unbeaten streak in the English top flight.

Three second half goals, a brace from Sarr and a late effort from Troy Deeney were enough for the relegation threatened side to overcome the current Champions League holders and runaway Premier League leaders who delivered an under-par performance at Vicarage Road.

Klopp’s men were however, still some way behind the overall record in Europe’s big five leagues of 58 consecutive games without defeat, held by memorable 1991-93 AC Milan team and the reverse at Watford leaves Arsenal as the only ‘invincible’ side in Premier League history with Arsene Wenger’s 2003-04 side still the only unbeaten team in an EPL season.
