President Muhammadu Buhari has terminated the appointment of Babatunde Fowler as the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
Fowler was subsequently replaced by Muhammad Nami, as the new head of FIRS. The decision was communicated by the Presidency on Monday, December 9th, 2019.
Fowler was appointed in 2015.
Meanwhile, Nami’s nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.
The President also approved the composition of a new board for the FIRS subject to Senate confirmation.
The board is composed of a member representing each of the six geographical zones; as well as statutory representatives from a select number of ministries and government agencies.
In a statement issued by a spokesman to the presidency, Garba Shehu; Nami is a well-trained tax, accounting and also management professional; with highly rated qualifications and professional practice as well as licenses from relevant professional bodies.
The outgoing FIRS boss is expected to hand over to the most senior director on the board; who will take charge, pending the Senate confirmation of the new board.
